Chicken with the famous Vleminckx fries
The fries next to your chicken are not just any fries. They are hand-cut Vleminckx fries, from the family counter that Amsterdam has queued at for decades.
The best fries in Amsterdam, on your plate
A few doors down Voetboogstraat sits Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx, the fries counter with the daily queue, called the best fries in Amsterdam by many. The Chicken Bar is run by the same family. That is why the fries here are the real thing: hand cut, double fried, 5.00 on the card.
One family, four counters
The family story starts in 1887. Today the quartet sits within two hundred metres of each other in the same quarter: Vleminckx de Sausmeester on Voetboogstraat 33, The Chicken Bar at 6-8, Fish & Fries at Muntplein 1 and The Dutch Chocolate Bar on Heiligeweg 20. Chicken, fish, fries and chocolate: the family covers the whole appetite.
How to eat it
The classic order is a half or whole rotisserie chicken with fries and a home made sauce. Chicken gravy over fries is the house move; sriracha mayonnaise if you like heat. At the Vleminckx counter itself the ritual is sauce on top of the cone; here you get your fries on a plate and the sauces come in pots, 1.00 each.
No queue required
At the fries counter you stand in line; at The Chicken Bar you sit down. Book a table online for the full experience, or get the same fries and chicken at home: delivery runs daily from 16:00 to 21:30.
